I heard the following story on news radio this morning. I found it amusing that for the cost of small drink this (alleged) idiot was charged with felony robbery. Remember, if you attempt to drink soda that has not been paid for, IT IS ROBBERY. The assault makes it a felony, even if the drink and other lunch items are left behind.
An Ogden man was charged with felony robbery after he allegedly punched a
Burger King manager who tried to stop him from using his free water cup for
fountain soda.
On July 30, the man, 36, had bought a hamburger and fries from the restaurant, 217 E. 400 South in Salt Lake City, and asked for a cup for water, police wrote in charges filed Monday.
When the man filled the cup with soda, the manager told him to pay for it, police wrote. When the man refused, the manager tried to take the soda away and "detain" the man, police wrote. The man punched the manager in the jaw, causing him to fall backward, police wrote. He then threw his hamburger in the manager's face and ran away. He was later arrested.
